Heather Brandt FinalHeather M. Brandt, PhD, CHES is Associate Dean for Professional Development in the Graduate School and Associate Professor in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina. Her research program in cancer prevention and control is focused on examining, describing, and intervening upon cancer-related health disparities through innovative approaches in partnership with the “community” (defined broadly and diversely). This research emphasizes dissemination and implementation of evidence-based approaches, knowledge-based practice, and co-creating knowledge with stakeholders in order to act on multiple levels. Dr. Brandt is currently PI (MPI) of an NHLBI-funded dissemination and implementation study (R01HL122285) of a community-based, lay health-delivered diet and physical activity intervention with African-American churches, PI of a CDC-funded colorectal cancer screening program with FQHCs in South Carolina (NU58DP006137), PI of subcontract for a dissemination and implementation science evaluation supplement focused on HPV vaccination and colorectal cancer screening (U54CA155496 evaluation supplement), co-investigator on the CDC- and NCI-funded South Carolina Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (U48DP005000-01S2), and a contributor to additional internally and externally funded research. She is the recipient of several awards, including the 2016 Norman J. Arnold Alumni Medal (Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina), 2015 James A. Keith Excellence in Teaching Award (Arnold School of Public Health, University of South Carolina), and 2016 Judith R. Miller Award and 2013 Early Career Award from the Public Health Education and Health Promotion (PHEHP) Section of the American Public Health Association (APHA). Nationally, she is Chair of the PHEHP Section of APHA, Co-Leader of the 80% by 2018 Evaluation Committee of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable, and a member of the National HPV Vaccination Roundtable.
